CHILDREN from a Central American tribe will be the main beneficiaries after a West Hallam charity’s loading day on Saturday.
The Children of Honduras Trust is focusing this year on sending its donated items, piled floor to ceiling in its warehouse at the TDG depot, to the children of the Lenca tribe in the country’s mountains.
Many of the children have skin problems brought about by a meagre diet of beans and tortillas so the charity will be sending out antibiotics and creams to ease the condition and shoes to prevent children picking up infections.
Jennifer Cox, founder and trustee of the charity, said: “This is a new focus. We are trying to help people who are in desperate need in a country where poverty is the norm.”
