A triple record breaking attempt at an Ilkeston pub is all set to go this weekend – with a little help from the ‘Tiser.

Ilkeston’s head-balancing pensioner John Evans has roped in reporter Dave Wade into his latest bid for the record books.

Dave will lie very still alongside four other willing volunteers while John, 66, steps over them, whilst balancing 100 half pints of water on his head.

The fun starts at 12noon on Saturday at the Commercial Inn, Awsworth Road.

Also at the cowboy-themed event, Peter ‘The Eater’ Dowdeswell, 73, will try to eat 20 sausages in the fastest time ever and Fred Burton, 68, will carry a 61lb weight between his teeth while running 111 metres.

It is part of a nationwide event, part organised by John, called The Magnificent Seven, which will see a total of seven records broken in different parts of the country at the same time – itself a new record.

All the proceeds from the Ilkeston event go to the Royal Derby Hospital where John’s daughter Allison was treated for pneumonia this year.
