I have just collected my copy of this week’s Advertiser and see a letter from Cllr McGraw headed ‘glass is still a problem.’
I would like the right to reply to a letter from Cllr McGraw of Stanley about the problems at Stanley Common Recreation Ground.
I have spoken to the chairman of Stanley and Stanley Common Parish Council, Cllr Cheetham, and he is happy to be quoted as saying that the parish council are happy with the advice and help they have received from their ward representative, Cllr McGraw, and also the help and advice from myself and the officers at Erewash Borough Council.
A solution working together was arrived at and the work has been carried out by a local company to solve the problem.
Cllr McGraw states that the parish council has managed to procure some money to cure this problem but that this will not be permanently resolved without help from Erewash Borough Counil.
This is wrong and misleading. The parish council has paid for this work to be done and used reserves that are held for contingencies.
Yes, this is an unexpected outlay and as this problem probably stems from some activity on this recreation area some 70 years ago it is not surprising it was not allowed for in any budgets.
The parish council only last week sent a letter to the Chief Executive to ask if Erewash Borough Council would be prepared to look at this unusual situation and agree to help with a donation towards cost.
I take great exception to Cllr McGraw’s remarks about my putting party politics before health and safety of the people who use this recreation area.
I have been the Derbyshire County Councillor for Stanley and Stanley Common for a number of years and I hope that the many residents of the area know me well enough and are confident that irrespective of anyone’s political persuasion I have and will always do my best to help with any problem or situation.
Cllr Carol Hart
Stanley and Stanley Common - Derbyshire County Councillor
