Going quackers for arts festival
Ilkeston festival kicked off on Saturday with a series of events that saw hundreds of people out celebrating the best of the region's arts and culture.
Crowds of people of all ages visited the Old Bakehouse, in Wharncliffe Road, on Saturday morning to make free hanging baskets to take home. A variety of unusual and rare breeds of hens, ducks and chicks from Quackers Community Farm were also available to help inspire artwork at the Enterprise Centre, Cotmanhay.
Festival co-ordinator Susan Smith, of Wash Arts, supported the project at the Old Bakehouse.
She said: "These events served to highlight the many positives in Ilkeston and demonstrate how creative projects and events can help raise aspirations and support community cohesion."
Events coming up during the festival include Ilkeston School's multi-media showcase; a classical piano recital at Trinity Church; South East Derbyshire Music Centre's concert inspired by Independence Day; the Lakeside Festival in Kirk Hallam and the final of Ilkeston's Got Talent.
