Green school hoists flag

AN ILKESTON junior school has finally hoisted the flag it was awarded more than a year ago for its pupils’ hard work making the school a greener place.

Kensington Junior School’s eco team, made up of nine pupils who have all now left the school, was given a national green flag award in March 2010, but because of delays with gaining expensive planning permission from Erewash Borough Council, the ceremony had to wait until last Wednesday.

Steam rally enthusiasts Clive Smedley and Alan King, grandfather of eco team member Maisie Clarke, gave £500 towards the flag pole, from donations at last year’s Coppice steam rally.

Headteacher Lindsey Partridge said: “It was lovely that year seven pupils who had been members of the eco team at the time were able to come back and join us.”
