Have a go at balancing the council’s books

RESIDENTS can have a say on setting Derbyshire County Council’s budget with an online calculator as it prepares to cut spending next year by £22m and axe 2,000 jobs by March 2015.

Residents can have a go at balancing the books at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/budget to see how choices can affect services and council tax.

Cllr John Harrison, cabinet member for finance, said: “All local authorities are experiencing tough times and in Derbyshire we’re doing our best to make the most of the cash we’ve got by continuing to cut out waste, duplication and bureaucracy.”
