There are just a few weeks left for residents to have their say on the future number of councillors on Erewash Borough Council.
Currently there are 51 elected members representing the borough but in 2015 this will drop to either 47 or 43.
A consultation with Erewash residents by the independent Local Government Boundary Commission is now underway and lasts until July 16.
Leader of the council Cllr Chris Corbett has said he would prefer the higher figure, while Labour leader Cllr Alex Phillips is in favour of fewer councillors.
“If you have 43 councillors you will have something like 2,000 residents per councillor,” said Cllr Corbett.
“Whereas with 47 you’d have about 1,600 – it’s all about balancing representing your communities and the workload.”
But Cllr Phillips said: “There is simply not enough work for the large number of councillors to do.”

The commission will publish its proposal in September.
