Salcare has been operational in Heanor for more than 30 years, providing a community one stop resource for the communities of Amber Valley and Erewash, offering help to anyone who is need.
We work in partnership with other agencies to provide support and help to families who are facing hardship and challenges. Services and activities we provide include:
Food bank – emergency food parcels, walk in or referral from other agencies, social care, refuges, drug and alcohol services etc. emergency food for single people and families. Every Friday 9am to 12.30pm.
Community kitchen – low cost hot meals which we can provide for free to the elderly or anyone who is homeless or waiting for benefits.
Furniture warehouse – we sell and supply to the general public, people who are in need that are referred to us, furniture can be provided free. We support refuge residents who are being relocated to new homes, and provide laundry facilities.
Charity shop – clothing and household goods, items are given for free when needed.
Benefits and welfare drop in – information and support around benefits, assessments of client needs and appropriate benefits.
Escape Domestic Abuse Services – weekly drop in sessions, 1:1 advocacy, support for all victims of domestic abuse regardless of gender or community, freedom programme, motivation groups and safety planning. Salcare Escape works with other agencies to support families in making the changes they need so they are safe.
Art Therapy – using art materials to express feelings and emotions. This is free and to find out more call 01773 765899 or e mail firstname.lastname@example.org
Laundry – large items can be washed and dried for low cost.
This kind of ‘wrap around’ care is available to all Salcare service users but for families with issues around domestic abuse, the advantages of having information in one place can be a key part of them not returning to abusive situations and getting help to make safer choices.
Salcare receives some funding from Derbyshire county council, but would welcome donations to support the service as we face challenges in the coming year with the possibility of a cut in the funding we receive.
We need some help with repairs to our roof and with painting inside and outside.
If you have some spare time we also need volunteers to support our charity shop and in the community kitchen. If you items of furniture, household goods, contributions to the food bank or clothing to donate, we can collect them. Please call 01773 764562 for details on how to donate.
