The Ilkeston Advertiser is pleased to announce the launch of our annual ‘Feed Our Families’ campaign, which was praised by Prime Minister David Cameron last year.

Christmas is often seen as the most wonderful time of the year, full of little luxuries, but for some families it is also one of the most difficult periods.

Therefore we are once again appealing for donations to the Arena Community food bank so that food parcels can be put together for those struggling to make ends meet.

Lisa Harrison, who runs the food bank, explained there was a need for as many donations as possible, as they always saw an increase of ten to 15 per cent of people using the service.

She added: “For those who are coming to us, if they did not have a food parcel they literally would not eat over Christmas, and for some of them their Christmas dinner is in that bag.”

Hampers of goodies are also given out to those families struggling the most.

The final food parcel handout before Christmas is on December 23, and then for some of those most in need Arena Church will serve a dinner on Christmas Day.

There are lots of easy ways you can make a donation as there are several collection points: Ilkeston Library, Citizens Advice Bureau, Arena Church or Arena Community on Belfield Street. We will also be accepting donations at the Ilkeston Advertiser office on Heanor Road.
