HIGH winds have been battering Ilkeston this week as this picture snapped by our photographer Lindsay Martin shows.

The whole country has been on alert over the high winds caused by the remnants of Hurricane Katia, which headed in our direction across the Atlantic after narrowly missing the USA.

The gales hit our shores on Sunday night but were not of hurricane force according to the Met Office.

However, the winds have still brought problems with damage caused including to this tree in West End Drive, Ilkeston.

Commuters were also warned they would face delays because of difficult driving conditions caused by the heavy winds.
