Hit and run death man jailed

An Ilkeston man has been sentenced to 30 weeks in prison for causing the death of soldier and father-of-three, Stephen Brough.

Colin Brown, 56, of Church Street, Ilkeston, appeared at Derby Crown Court today, having pleaded guilty to charges of failing to stop at the scene of an accident and failing to report it, and causing death by dangerous driving.

Falklands veteran, Brough, 39, died at about 12.45am on September 7 2008 outside his home in Heanor Road, where he and family had been celebrating his daughter Chelsey's admission to university.

The court heard Brown did not stop or slow down after he hit Brough, and drove to his father's house nearby. He then went with his wife to a nearby pub.

Judge Michael Foster said Brown would serve half of his custodial sentence and would be banned from driving for two years.
