ILKESTON-BORN star of stage and screen Robert Lindsay has been invited to join in a celebration event at Ilkeston’s historic Stanton Road Cemetery.

The Victorian burial ground – resting place of Ilson giant Samuel Taylor – has been spruced up thanks to Lottery cash to preserve its history and turn it into a recreational resource.

The event, which runs from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday, will feature a song about the 7ft 4.5ins former Ilkeston man by folk singer Ian Carter, guided walks around the cemetery and – hopefully – a visit from the former star of My Family, who is President of the Friends of Stanton Cemetery.

Mr Lindsay said: “The celebration is a fitting tribute to all those involved in the restoration works that have taken place, safeguarding the future of this historic cemetery and making it a place for all to enjoy now and future generations.”
