A couple from Ilkeston will be sentenced at court next month after pleading guilty to a charge of child cruelty.

The man and woman, in their 20s, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday, November 20.

They both pleaded guilty to a charge in relation to an incident that took place between April and May 2014 when a door was placed over a child’s cot.

They pleaded not guilty to two other charges of child cruelty, one in relation to a second child.

The case was adjourned until December 14 by judge Andrew Hamilton in order for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.

The charge is that of being the person responsible for a child under 16 who wilfully assaulted, ill treated, neglected, abandoned or exposed the child in a manner likely to cause them unnecessary suffering or injury to health.
