Firefighters and cadets rolled up their sleeves on Saturday to wash cars for the day to raise money for the Mayor of Erewash’s chosen charities.

People were asked to make a donation to get their cars washed and a staggering £1,200 had been collected by the end of the day. Hose that for a successful day?

Mayor, councillor Kewal Singh Athwal, said: “Cars were queuing for the best part of the day and we raised around £1,200 for the Ilkeston and Long Eaton branches of the Royal British Legion and local air, army and sea cadet units – and the Firefighters’ charity.

“I am extremely pleased with how much was raised. I want to thank all the people that supported the car wash, along with all the cadets and firefighters from Ilkeston Fire Station who took part in the car wash. They played a very active part.”

This is one of a number of events the mayor will host, including a quiz tonight (Thursday) at Sandiacre Football Club.
