£50,000 boost to extend village hall

A village hall is all set to expand and welcome new groups through its doors after a big financial boost.

Risley Village Memorial Hall will use the £50,000 to build an extension to increase the size of the committee room and kitchen as well as provide a separate entrance to allow two different groups to use it at the same time.

One of the many groups to benefit from the expansion is the Midland Afghan Hounds Association.

Group secretary Michelle Bloor said: “Our organisation have used the hall for over 30 years and are really excited by the proposed project and the new facilities.

“Our members come from all over the country and this project can only enhance their experience of using the hall.”

The funding has come from the Biffa Award, a multi-million pound fund which helps to ‘build communities and transform lives’ through awarding grants to community and environmental projects across the country.

Architect Richard Dundas, who has managed the project, said: “I have found it extremely rewarding, knowing the benefit it will bring to the local community and groups that use the hall.”

Additional money for the cash has come from fundraising events organised by Risely Parish Council.
