Adults urged to improve skills

Adults in Ilkeston are being encouraged to study to develop skills during the recession.

Free lessons to improve reading, writing and arithmetic and a range of daytime and evening courses at colleges and education centres around the area start in September.

Adults can attend new courses including Japanese at Kirk Hallam Community Technology College and a CLAIT computing course at Ilkeston Adult Community Education Centre.

It is hoped the courses help unemployed adults develop skills and find work during the recession.

Janneke Evans, programme manager at Ilkeston Adult Community Education Centre, said: "I think people who have lost jobs would do well to find out what Derbyshire County Council Adult Community Education has to offer in the way of upskilling – this could be NVQs, computer skills, bookkeeping or working towards level two qualifications in English and Maths."
