Are you one of the Bright Hour ladies?

THIS week's Memory Lane photograph was brought in by Margaret Clarke, from Kilburn.

It shows the Ladies' Bright Hour Club, who met at Stanton-by-Dale Village Hall in the 1960s - and Margaret would like to know if our readers recognise any faces in the crowd.

Margaret, whose mother Alice Ames of Norman Street, Ilkeston, is on the far right on the front row, said: "I helped her celebrate her 80th birthday with a party at the club in 1998. She died in 2006."

She said the picture was taken in the mid-1960s at Trentham Gardens on one of the club's many trips out.

"I lived in Stanton-by-Dale in from 1964 t0 1970 and a lot of the faces are familiar, but I can't put a name to a lot of them as I moved away.

"I do remember how they used to catch the bus from Ilkeston Market Place every Wednesday at 2pm and all pile off at Stanhope Street in the village for an hour-and-a-half of old time dancing.

"They all enjoyed it so much, and, just like the exercise classes today, it kept them fit."

If you can fill in the gaps write to Margaret at 148 Chapel Street, Kilburn, Belper, Derbyshire, DE56 0PB, or email news@ilkestonadvertiser.co.uk.

If you have any old photographs you would like including in our Memory Lane feature, bring them in to our office in Heanor Road, Ilkeston, or emailnews@ilkestonadvertiser.co.uk.
