Band to play with rock idols

Three Ilkeston musicians’ dream to play a festival alongside some of their rock heroes has come true as they are confirmed at Download.

Guitarist Danny Beardsley, bass player Daniel Hayes and drummer Eddie Hodgkinson will join the likes of Slipknot and Korn as their band Emperor Chung takes the stage at the festival in Donington Park this summer.

“It’s still a bit hard to believe,” said Daniel, 25, formerly of successful Ilkeston band Isolysis.

“It’s the ultimate dream come true, going to Download and seeing heroes I’ve looked up to for so many years.

“To finally be on stage there, it’s going to be epic.”

The band, completed by guitarist Richard Shaw from Heanor, and singer Martin Jackson, from Beeston, only formed in October 2011.

Since then they have played at venues all over the country but nothing quite as big as Download.

Next month they are due to go into the studio to record an album and hope to shoot a video for their single The Bloodline, which is available to download for free from Reverbnation.

But despite their success, the band remain unsigned.

“I think wherever you go in the country there is always a lot of undiscovered talent out there,” explained Daniel.

“I suppose what we have achieved is a bit of a thumbs-up for all the un-singed bands.

“We’ll be flying the flag for all that undiscovered talent at the festival.”

The band play the Pepsi Max stage at Download on June 14.
