BREAKING: Ilkeston pub can keep its licence

The Charter, Ilkeston.

The Charter, Ilkeston.

Ilkesotn pub The Charter has been allowed to keep its licence but with a number of new conditions.

Last year, police said they had ‘lost confidence’ with the South Street pub after a string of violent assaults in and around the premises.

Erewash Borough Council’s licensing committee today (Monday) deliberated on whether to revoke its licence or impose conditions.

The meeting heard that pub owner Bramwell Pubs and bars had discussed a ‘compromise’ with police over the last 10 days.

Councillors ruled that the pub could keep its licence as long as it agrees to close an hour earlier at 1am.

It must also restrict its capacity to 480, overhaul its CCTV coverage and replace glasses with polycarbonate vessels from 10am on Fridays and Saturdays.
