Cotmanhay pastor is ‘smitten’

Cotmanhay pastor Elaine Laighton will be formally inducted as minister at the Norman Street baptist church on Saturday at 3pm.

The ceremony involves a sermon, prayers and pledges to church from Elaine.

It will be led by Mike Segredo, Superintendent for East Midlands Baptists Association. Mike and Elaine will be joined by ministers from other churches and many of her friends on the day.

Elaine, who has been preaching at the church for eight years, said: “It’s absolutely fantastic and has come at a really good time. It’s a fantastic opportunity as a woman to lead a church a help it grow.

“It’s been a great Christmas and I am looking to open a community cafe at the church sometime in the future,” she said.

Elaine is a part-time teacher and became a Christian in her late twenties. She said: “I was invited to a church, smitten and am still wildly in love.”
