Drugs sentence Dawn Inger

An Ilkeston couple were jailed for a total of eight years on Valentine’s Day after pleading guilty to intending to supply drugs.

An Ilkeston couple were jailed for a total of eight years on Valentine’s Day after pleading guilty to intending to supply drugs.

Dawn Inger and Daniel Smith were arrested after a raid by police at their home last year, during which officers were attacked, Derby Crown Court heard.

A judge was told Smith, 44, bit a police officer on the arm during a struggle at the Milton Street address on July 5.

An officer was trying to wrestle a suspected drugs wrap from Smith after seeing him attempt to hide something in his mouth. The officer described the bruising and puncture wounds he received as ‘excruciatingly’ painful.

Sarah Allen, prosecuting, said: “The defendant spat out a Kinder Egg found to contain six wraps of heroin valued between £60 and £140.”

“Inger volunteered that she had further drugs on her person - two wraps of crack cocaine worth between £130 and £170.”

An amount of cash was also seized during the raid - as were mobile phones with text messages consistent with the supply of drugs to others.

Smith had pleaded guilty at a previous hearing to assault and possession of heroin with intent to supply. Inger had pleaded guilty to two counts of intent to supply drugs.

Quentin Robbins, defending Inger, said: “She became involved when Smith went to prison in 2011. She foolishly

began dealing to a small number of people who had bought drugs from her partner.”

Recorder Kevin Hegarty QC sentenced Smith to four years and eight months for the drugs charge and a further 12 months, consecutive, for assault.

Inger, 41, also of Milton Street, was jailed for two years and four months.

As he sentenced her, Mr Hegarty said: “If you could only see the trail of devastation that drugs cause you would see why judges have to harden their hearts. This filthy trade enslaves people and in some cases takes their lives.”
