Step into an Asda store anywhere in the country to buy a video game and you are likely to see the handiwork of a small but successful Cotmanhay firm.

Simon Design, in Bright Street, creates everything from posters to free-standing cutouts and large-scale displays to advertiser some of the latest console game releases in store.

The team of six became an approved supplier to the supermarket giant’s 300 stores three years ago and is currently working on displays for new game Crisis 3 and the latest Tomb Raider release.

Simon Davey, who started the firm 17 years ago, said: “It gives myself and the team a great feeling to know that our work here in Ilkeston is being seen by shoppers in more than 300 leading stores across the country.”

For years the company has produced branding material for companies ranging from sole traders to large companies like Gleeson Homes.

Their work for Asda started out as designing packaging for chilled food which got them noticed by the firm’s head of games.

“With the recession hitting the construction industry hard we were fortunate to pick up this work for the food and later the games sales from Asda,” said Simon.

“They give us the basic details and leave the rest to our imagination and creativity.”

The team’s latest works will be in stores from next month.

“I’m delighted to be working with a big player like Asda,” said Simon.

“We hope that as the economy picks up and the games are brought out we will be kept very busy during 2013.

“We are looking to try and expand the business.”
