G20 protester assaulted cop

AN ILKESTON man has admitted striking a police officer over the head with a baton during the G20 demonstrations in London earlier this year.

John Turner, 54, of Hallam Fields Road, Ilkeston, admitted violent disorder.

He has also pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing a police baton as an offensive weapon on Monday last week when he appeared at London's Isleworth Crown Court.

CCTV footage of the attack, which took place on April 1, will be played in court when Turner returns for sentencing on February 5 next year.

The capital's financial district was brought to a standstill as demonstrators from all over the country protested about various issues at the beginning of April this year.
