Give views on opencast plan

Residents have less than two weeks to give their views about a plan to create an opencast mine between Cossall and Trowell.

Since the last consultation on the plan by UK Coal,, Nottinghamshire County Council has received new information on the Shortwood Farm site.

A spokesman said the information related to improtant issues such as noise, ecology, highways and air quality among others.

UK Coal hopes to extract 1.275m tonnes of coal from the 320-acre mine over five years.

The firm said the mine could employ 60 workers but campaigners have described it as a ‘rape’ of the countryside, treasured as DH Lawrence land after its links with the author.

Lib Dem leader on Broxtowe Borough Council Cllr David Watts said: “I am utterly opposed to this application and I would encourage as many people as possible to express their views to the county council.”

Residents have until Monday February 11 to make your views known by searching for ES/2569 at www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/planningsearch
