Greenbelt homes plan won on appeal

A controversial plan to build 11 homes in Stanley Common greenbelt, which was turned down by the council last year, has been granted on appeal.
Neighbour to the site off Common Lane, Ian Bamford, who spke out aginst the plan last February. said the whole village has been left ‘gutted’ by the decision.
“To be honest, I am livid,” he said.
“They have told my wife it can be challenged in the courts but that sounds like a lot of money to me.
“The whole community is gutted.”
Mr Bamford said he has been trying to sell his home since before the plan by Waterloo Housing was lodged.
He said he will now be forced to sell at a much lower price.
Cllr Linda McGraw, who represents the village on Erewash Borough Council, fought hard against the plan last year.
“Clearly, I am extremely disappointed,” she said.
“But I haven’t given up all hope – I am prepared to fight along with residents.”
She plans to meet with Mid-Derbyshire MP Pauline Latham on Friday to discuss, what if any options the village has to overturn the plan.
Cllr McGraw claimed that the inspector granted the appeal on the grounds that there were not enough affordable homes in the village, which she refutes.
Neil Adie, group head of development at Birmingham-based Waterloo Housing, said he was ‘pleased’ about the decision.
“We are still awaiting the final details but our intention is to commence works at the earliest opportunity, to deliver this much needed affordable housing in the area,” he said.
