Home call follows rise in dumped cats
THESE cute kittens are desperate for a new loving home after being found abandoned in an empty house.
Three kittens were handed in to staff at Babbington Kennels in Awsworth because catteries in the area, including the RSPCA shelter in Derby, are so over-run with unwanted pets.
There is a traditional deluge of unwanted kittens at this time of year and the manager at Babbington Kennels, Tony Sanderson, believes the increase in abandoned cats had been made worse because of the recession.
Over the last two weeks, Mr Sanderson has been handed six cats, including a pregnant one which gave birth to four kittens on Monday of this week, as well as the three kittens, one of which has been re-homed, leaving Diesel and Tula looking for new owners.
The kittens were found abandoned in an empty house in Ilkeston.
It is believed the owners moved out and did not take the 13-week-old kittens with them. The kennels has had to convert two outside pens to accommodate the additional cats.
Mr Sanderson added: "We've been taking them in to stop them from being put to sleep. We don't normally have any cats really, just the very odd one.
"The kittens are cheeky and really loving and friendly, they would make great pets."
The RSPCA last week announced a rise in cats being abandoned for the fourth year running.
As well as the cats and kittens, Babbington Kennels has 45 dogs and four rabbits that need re-homing.
