Icy road caused telegraph pole crash

A DRIVER had to be cut free from his car after crashing into a telegraph pole on Cotmanhay Road in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Fire crews were called to the scene at 4.30am. They used cutting equipment to remove the car’s roof so they could free the man.

An ambulance took the driver to the Queen’s Medical Centre.

His injuries were not life threatening.

The pole was knocked into a nearby garden.

Police called the council’s highways department advising them to grit the road due to ice.
