Ilkeston’s new cocktail bar brings touch of class

Ilkeston folk can enjoy a touch of class now at a new cocktail lounge which has opened upstairs at Shaker’s Bar on the Market Place.

The new venue is open Friday and Saturday nights and Manager Russ Draper hopes it will bring a little sophistication to the town.

The cocktail lounge opened its doors just before New Year and is doing quite well, said Russ.

“We want to educate people about how cocktails work,” he added.

“Downstairs is more disco drinks but this more sophisticated with Martini and cocktail glasses.

“The music and ambience is relaxed and we use door staff to weed out those we think could create a scene.”

Russ said the cocktail bar was attracting a mixed crowd from the age of about 22 up to people in their 40s and 50s.

“It’s just nice for someone to come down and have a relaxed drink. People who just want to get away from the bustling crowds is what we’re aiming for,” said Russ.
