James’ 26-mile charity challenge for disabled

Novice Ilkeston runnerJames Holding is going the extra mile for charity this April - by running the London Marathon.

Twenty-four-year-old James, of Nuthall Circle, Kirk Hallam, is taking on th e challenge in aid of nearby Eastwood charity United Response.

The charity provides support for people with mental health issues, physical and learning disabilities.

James, who has been running for just under a year, said the famous marathon was on a list of ambitions to fulfil before he was 30 and it was a good way of supporting the worthy charity - which his wife works for.

“I’m looking forward to it but I’m a bit nervous,” said the father-of-one.”

“But I’m hoping on the day it will help that there are so many people in the same boat as me. And my wife and son are coming down with two friends”

James, a building estimator by trade, started off by training with short runs and is now running up to 15 miles per session.

The Ilkeston man said his schedule meant reaching the 20-mile mark a short time before the big event on April 21.

He added: “You go through phases - there are times when you feel really comfortable but then sometimes you get to ten miles round and think, ‘where are the other ten coming from?’”

James has to raise £1,500 for United Response to secure his place in the race.
