M1 closed from J26 to J27

The M1 has been closed (Monday evening) in both directions between junctions 26 and 27 following a fire in a vehicle.

Northbound traffic is being diverted off the motorway at junction 26 and can rejoin at junction 28 via the A610 and the A38.

Southbound traffic is being diverted off the motorway at junction 27 and can rejoin the motorway at junction 26 via the A608 and B600.

Firefighters and police were called to the scene just before 5pm and there have been reports of explosives being involved.
