Peaks paraglider rescued

AN ILKESTON man injured his back in a paragliding accident in the Peak District this weekend, the mountain rescue has said.

The 39-year-old man was paragliding in the Mam Tor area, on Saturday, and sustained back injuries when he landed heavily in field near to the Rushup Edge road.

The man was treated by ambulance service paramedics and Buxton Mountain Rescue Team medics and carried to the waiting ambulance.

He was then transferred to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield for treatment of his injuries.

Neil Carruthers, Buxton team leader, said “We believe he was preparing to land, realised he was near to the road and landed awkwardly in the adjacent field.”
