Petition to sort out Ilkeston street

More than 600 shoppers signed a petition on Saturday to get the council to spruce up Bath Street.

Labour councillors launched their Save Our Street (SOS) campaign on Saturday, with forms for shoppers to write down their views running out.

Cllr Alex Phillips and Cllr Howard Griffiths are running the campaign and the pair said they were 'overwhelmed' by the reaction they received.

Cllr Phillips said: "It's clear from the massive amount of signatures

we collected in such a short period, that shoppers are simply fed up with the current state of Bath Street, whether that's the general look and feel of the street or something like the lack of litter bins."

The Advertiser's Staying Alive campaign, aimed at rejuvenating Ilkeston, is also calling for action to improve the town centre.

The SOS Street Stall will be back on Bath Street next Saturday March 13, between 10am and 12pm.
