Plea for cash for Jubilee street parties
EREWASH’S Labour group has called on the council to provide cash for local groups to use to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this year.
Cllr Margaret Griffiths has written to chief executive of Erewash Borough Council Jeremy Jaroszek after being approached by residents hoping to hold street parties.
“Whether its bunting packs or a series of financial grants, the Diamond Jubilee is a once-in-a-lifetime event and we must offer practical help to those community-spirited people who want to make it an historic milestone for their friends and neighbours,” she said.

Monday, January 30, 2012 at 08:37 AMI am not anti royal, but with councils struggling to make ends meet and keep services running, as a tax payer in Erewash I would personally be disgusted if the council dished money out for street parties etc. If people want them then club together as a street and pay for them yourselves, not expect a hand out from taxpayers money to do it.
