Police question man over Bath Street burgling spree

A man has been arrested in connection with a series of burglaries in the Ilkeston area.

The 25-year-old man was arrested at around 1am on Friday (February 8) on a canal towpath off Awsworth Road, Ilkeston.

Officers on patrol in Ilkeston saw a person climbing down the fire escape at a disused shop on Waterside Retail Park. The shop had been broken into but it is not thought anything stolen.

Officers on foot, assisted by the police helicopter, searched the area and a man was arrested nearby on suspicion of burglary.

He was also arrested on suspicion of four burglaries committed at business premises in Bath Street overnight between Monday, February 4 and Tuesday 5.

The man remains in police custody.
