Protest plans over walk-in

A campaign group has planned two protests against the closure of Ilkeston’s walk-in centre and GP surgery.

More than 3,500 people, including Ilkeston-born actor Robert Lindsay, have signed a petition against the closures since NHS Derbyshire announced it them last November.

Now protesters will take to the organisation’s headquarters in Cardinal Square, Derby, on Wednesday February 6 to coincide with a board meeting at 12noon.

The second protest is a torchlit vigil outside the Heanor Road walk-in centre, planned for Friday February 15 at 4pm.

The Save Ilkeston GP campaign group released a statement this week saying that the two public meetings NHS Derbyshire organised for campaigners to hear about the closures were ‘shambolic’.

“At the moment it is felt that nobody is listening to the voice of the patients – the people who are going to be affected by this closure,” it read.

NHS Derbyshire has siad the closures are because the surgery, opened in 2008, has not attracted nearly enough patients.
