Schools merger gets the go-ahead
NILA 02-10-12 BE 12 Ormiston enterprise academy, Cotmanhay.
Ormiston Enterprise Academy, formerly Bennerley school, will close, it has been announced just minutes ago.
The Department for Education has given the stamp of approval to merge the Cotmanhay academy with Ormiston Ilkeston Academy, formerly Ilkeston School.
Although the decision may not come as a shock to many people, campaigners against the merger, including parents, governors and staff, are sure to be outraged.
Students will continue to be based at both sites until September 2014, after which they will be housed at the King George Avenue site.
The Government also confirmed that the £7.4m allocated to the Cotmanhay site will be retained and used ‘to create an enhanced learning environment for young people in Ilkeston’, although no further details have been released.

It is understood that Erewash MP Jessica Lee is to talk with school staff this afternoon (Friday).
