A Shipley View woman is waging war against irresponsible dog owners who do not clean up their pets’ mess.

Josephine Mahon says she is ‘sickened’ by the piles of dog poo which she and neighbours find on their pavements every day and has resorted to putting up posters to solve the problem.

The retired mother-of-one, who lives on the corner of Ilford Close and Summerfield Way, said she and fellow neighbours had been clearing up the unwanted muck for the last six months.

She added: “We’ve had this problem before and decided we had to stop it, so we put posters up telling people to clean up after themselves.

“I have three dogs and my neighbour has two - we’re not only cleaning up after our own dogs’ mess but everybody else’s.”

Sixty-seven-year-old Josephine said she had even trodden the mess into her home from her front garden.

“These people are totally irresponsible - there are children running up and down the grass verges from the nursery over the road,” she said. “If they get it on their hands they’re in danger of going blind.”

Another Shipley View resident, who asked not to be named, said: “I have never liked the sight of dog mess and while walking down to the Co-op I realised I was avoiding piles of the stuff.

“The area around Shipley View estate is a dog’s toilet, I counted seven piles one day walking up the path behind Morley and Windley Drive.

“I know the dogs are not to blame, it’s the irresponsible owners who have no pride in their locality and environment, not to mention the danger to children.”
