Specs are ‘binned by town pub’
A frustrated man has claimed a pair of spectacles were ‘thrown away’ by staff at an Ilkeston pub after they were accidentally left behind.
David Whitlock and his wife Kaye had just popped in to the Charter pub onThursday morning last week (February 21) for a cup of tea when they left the reading glasses.
Fifty-seven-year-old Kaye, of Grangewood Avenue, said they went back 24 hours later but the spectacles could not be found.
She said: “I was gobsmacked. So my daughter emailed the company which owns the pub and they offered us a free meal.
“We will not be taking up the offer or going in there for a cup of tea again.”
Father-of-three David, 59, now has a new pair of reading glasses after having had another eye test and shelling out £90 for them.
The couple’s daughter, Katie Barker, said: “I just could not understand how they could have thrown them away.”
But before the Advertiser went to press a spokesperson for the Charter said: “We have apologised to the couple regarding the situation where they were informed that a pair of glasses had been thrown away.
“Unfortunately, we cannot verify that this was the case and it is likely that they were misinformed, as all lost property is handed into the management office.
“We will refund the cost of replacement glasses as advised by their daughter, Katie Barker, and would like to invite them back to the Charter as a guest of the manager.”
