A SUTTON fundraiser raised more than £1,000 for a cancer charity after taking part in an energy-sapping charity challenge.

Chris Clarke raised the money for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity after taking part in the organisation’s Big Walk event at Clumber Park on 8th September.

During the event, caring Chris cycled 20 miles from his Sutton home just to get to the venue, before walking 10 miles around the park and then cycling the 20 miles back home.

Chris, who is a well known pool player in the area and a member of Kirkby Cross Snooker Club’s team, said: “I lost my dad to cancer 15 years ago and have recently lost a neighbour, so it is a charity that is close to me.

“I have been a biker all my life, so the distance was not something that bothered me.

“Each time I went to play a pool match I asked people to sponsor me. I must have got help from eight different venues across Sutton and Kirkby.

“I managed to raise the money in about two weeks and I’m delighted with the level of support I have received from people.”

Chris now hopes to take part in a coast to coast cycle ride later this year to raise further funds for the charity.

Chris is no stranger to fundraising and once completed a sponsored parachute jump for Children in Need.
