Victim’s family pays tribute to ‘loving father and son’
The family of a man allegedly murdered in Ilkeston have paid tribute to a ‘loving father and son’ in a statement released this week.
Michael Moss, 48, died after he was found with severe injuries at a house on Canal Street on Wednesday last week, January 30. He later died en-route to hospital.
Now his family have thanked Derbyshire Police for the way they are investigating the case.
In a statement through the police, they said: “The police have kept us informed of developments throughout the continuing investigation and we have found great comfort in the knowledge that all is being done to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“We would also like to thank the wider Ilkeston and Cotmanhay community for their support, both of the police and of everyone who has been affected by Michael’s death.”
Detectives have produced an appeal leaflet which they will be distributing in the community this week.
Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward who saw two white men leaving the house around the time of the incident.
They are also asking people to ring in if they saw a silver vehicle in the area on the night of the death. Two men were seen getting into the vehicle and driving off.
Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111..
Canal Street residents told the Advertiser they were shocked by what happened to a neighbour many of them knew.
One neighbour said: “I cannot believe it. I’ve known Mick for years. He was only a little bloke.”
Another Canal Street resident said Mr Moss was well known on the street and well thought of.
Speaking on the morning after the death took place she said: “He was sat in my living on Saturday night having a drink with my husband.”
“I didn’t even know anything about it until my daughter phoned me and told me what had happened.
Another told the Advertiser: “You don’t expect this kind of thing - it’s a fairly peaceful area. I am on my own now after my husband died and its’ a bit worrying.”
Another neighbour added: “I’ve lived here for 38 years and when I first came people would buy houses that had gone up for sale but now everything is let - it’s a reflection of how things are going.”
