VIDEO: A snowy week as area grinds to a halt

Ilkeston was transformed into a winter wonderland as heavy snowfall covered the town in a blanket of white.

The wintry weather caused havoc with cars gridlocked as commuters battled to work. Public transport was brought to its knees and parents were left to find alternative childcare as schools closed after heavy flurries.

Choatic scenes were witnessed around Ilkeston as people slid up and down Bath Street and some buses turned sideways, causing long tailbacks.

The snow also brought some remarkable tales from around the area – including that of a missing miniature pony who sparked a dramatic search effort with people from all over the county and further afield lending a hand.

We asked ‘Tiser readers to submit their pictures of the snowy conditions via Twitter and Facebook and had a great response.

You can see a round-up of the intrepid snappers’ efforts in this week’s paper, out tomorrow (Thursday).
