Watch flooding video - weathermen warn there’s more rain on the way

Some roads were still affected by flooding across Derbyshire after rain at the weekend and more is forecast for this week.

Across Derbyshire at the weekend, flooding left more than 30 people needing to be rescued from deep water on roads.

But fire service chiefs have said some of the incidents could have been avoided if people had not ignored road closure signs put up by Derbyshire County Council. A spokesman for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said when crews were tied up rescuing people who had ignored warning signs they were not available for real emergencies.

Elsewhere, the Fox and Hounds pub, in Alfreton Road, Coxbench, remained open over the weekend but had had water seeping through its floor for the past three days. Landlady Melanie Whysall said staff were working hard and the customers were being very understanding.

One woman needing hospital treatment was airlifted from a boat in Sawley Marina by an RAF Sea King helicopter, after floods prevented an ambulance from reaching her.

The rain led to more than 20 flood warnings and alerts being put in place over the weekend across many parts of Derbyshire next to the Rivers Amber, Trent, Dove and Derwent.

Flooding problems in Heage Lane, Etwall, which began with heavy rain on Thursday, were still affecting people going to Highfields Happy Hens to collect turkeys for Christmas Day over the weekend.
