Late last year you nominated those people from the Ilkeston area who you thought deserved to be recognised for their community spirit and hard work for others.

We have picked from the many unsung heroes you sent in and we will honour them at our annual New Years Honours awards on Friday.

Last year you picked worthy winners, including Tracey Parker, who together with her husband Daren, started the Ilkeston-based charity Ben’s Den in memory of their son who died aged 13 from cancer.

Familiar face Denis Jackson scooped a prize too for his years of charity bike rides.

As did young James Taylor, who works tirelessly for local charities from his West Hallam home.

For a round-up of all the winners and pictures from the ceremony at Ilkeston Community Hospital’s Charnos Hall, see the Ilkeston Advertiser out Thursday March 7.
