Worries over 99 new homes
Villagers have concerns over plans to build 99 homes in Smalley.
The proposal by Peveril Homes, on land south of Heanor Road, also includes provision for public open space, drainage works and a path to Delves Road.
Smalley parish councillor Terry Pride, who lives in The Grange, said: “Access to Heanor Road is very narrow at that particular point. It’s got the brow of a hill to the right and a blind bend to the left in a 40mph zone.”
He felt the development would cause traffic problems, once added to the 60 lorry movements a day from the UK Coal opencast site with another projected 60 trucks coming off the Denby mine site, and an 83-home development set along Adale Road.
Cllr Pride canvassed residents for their views after Peveril Homes approached the council in September, adding: “They said an application would be made within a fortnight. Then suddenly it was made over the Christmas holiday. All the residents have other priorities at that time.”
Cllr Pride has called on Amber Valley council to extend the deadline for people to voice their objections.
Peveril Homes declined to comment.
