Ilkeston shows off its charitable side

Three generous Ilkestonians are set to endure heights and exhaustion as they embark on fundraising events.

Jacqui Raeside, 43, is jumping from an aeroplane at Langar on Sunday to raise funds for her friend’s wedding. Maxine Smith, 35, has terminal cancer but plans to marry in September. The jump is sponsored by Jacqui’s work Carters Flooring, Stanton-by-Dale. She will be in the General Havelock on Sunday to collect donations.

George Maier, 18, has been putting his time before university to good use by running five miles a day all this week in aid of Macmillan. He said he wanted to do something to help out families when they need it most.

And biker Scott Gilbert is setting off on his second ride out from his work at Granby Motors through the Peak District in aid of Cancer Research on Saturday. More than 90 riders are expected to join him.
