Indoor market is a great idea
Madam, I was reading in the Advertiser about attempts to revitalise Ilkeston and Long Eaton town centres when one suggestion hit me between the eyes.
Erewash Partnership suggested opening the former Woolworths stores in both towns as indoor markets.
What a fantastic idea! Indoor markets are very popular all over the world, particularly where the weather is not always the best.
I am an Ilkeston lad and this would really bring the bottom of Bath Street to life and would do more to encourage new businesses to bathe in its success than anything else I can think of.
So what was the reaction to this suggestion?
Too expensive.
It's cheaper to let the town continue to die and force more shoppers to shop elsewhere, aided by the free Tesco Flyer taking shoppers to Ikea and and onward to Phoenix Park for the trams into Nottingham. Happy days!
