An Ilkeston trainee has scooped a national award and been named the UK’s top Roofing Single Ply trainee at the UK’s largest multi-trade competition.

Jake Heath, 24, from Ilkeston, won first place in his category at a tense three day final which took place at the Skills Show at Birmingham’s NEC.

Jake, who works for Advanced Roofing and attends East Midlands Roofing College, received his award at a high profile awards ceremony which was attended by industry leaders and sponsors earlier this month.

Jame said, “I’m absolutely delighted to have won.

“The competition was tough, but it’s been worth all the hard work and preparation.

“I’d like to thank my college and employer for all their support and help and also everyone at SkillBuild for a great competition.”

Mick O’Flynn, regional delivery manager for CITB in the East Midlands said: “This year’s SkillBuild has been a fantastic success and it’s always a pleasure to bring together the construction industry’s brightest talent in this nationwide competition.

“SkillBuild encourages excellence, helps to raise standards in training and is an exciting way to showcase the outstanding talent in the construction industry.

“We’re proud of Jake, and all of the finalists, who have demonstrated work of an exceptionally high standard.”
