Lantern parade for new year

Erewash residents have the chance see in the Chinese New Year in style on Saturday.

The Year of the Horse will be welcomed in colourful style at a range of events run by Erewash Borough Councilon Ilkeston Market Place between 5pm and 6pm.

There will be music and dance performances as well as the popular New Year lantern procession from Erewash Museum to the Market Place.

During the day, Erewash Museum will host art workshops between 10.30am and 3.30pm when, for a small charge of £1.25, children can have a go at Chinese crafts and make lanterns – which they can then use to take part in the Ilkeston procession.

Cllr Mike Wallis said: “The activities at our award winning Museum are great fun for children and we know parents love them to.

“And, of course, our Chinese New Year celebration at 5pm is always popular and is a wonderful family-friendly event that is colourful, entertaining and a great spectacle for people of all ages so join us and soak up the atmosphere.”
