On New Year’s Eve, I walked along the canal path with visiting family members.
A tall man with long white hair was coming towards us wearing a bright yellow jacket.
Every so often he stooped down and sprayed ‘certain deposits’ with mauve paint spray from an aerosol.
Looking along the canal path we could see many, many highlighted piles.
Stopping for a chat we learned that he was a volunteer who patrols the canal path keeping it safe and clear for the likes of me to enjoy.
His role today was to highlight how many people with pets do not try to ‘Keep Britain Tidy’ by not clearing up after the animals, he hoped that the message would be understood by dog walkers.
Containers are provided to dispose of the dog mess. Why don’t we use them?
Looking back along the towpath it has a very festive look but that was not the object of the exercise.
