After reading in the Advertiser about Marcello Gabrielli’s efforts to save the remaining original Ilkeston Station building I must say that I am wholeheartedly in favour of the plan.
My 90-year-old father would also love to see it saved. As it has survived until now, it would seem ridiculous to demolish it at this stage and replace it with a featureless ‘shelter’ for our new station while other railway stations all around the country are making the most of their heritage!
Derbyshire County Council says it is too late to save the building. As it is still standing, this is obviously not the case.
